Within the meat industry across Europe ‘Welfare Officers’ are typically slaughter / stock operatives holding relevant Certificates of Competence ( CoC’s ) who have been mandated by the Business Operator to fulfil the roles and legal requirements of the Regulation EC 1099/2009 ( WATOK - UK ).

The EU guidance document ‘The Welfare Officer.pdf’ reveals a more extensive and detailed employment profile for any mandated WO.  Since 1993 AWT has authored, developed and delivered AWOP & PWOP training courses worldwide providing opportunities for continued professional development of certified and competent slaughter / stock operatives wishing to understand the full breadth and depth of key welfare and quality issues during production as well as more detailed understanding of WO compliance.  Professionals not directly associated with meat production not wishing to hold CoC’s often rely on more advanced holistic training courses / programmes to provide essential detailed background knowledge and understanding whilst satisfying CPD and 3rd party requirements.

For this reason AWT will continue to develop and deliver the full range of AWOP / PWOP, Elective & Senior Welfare Officer training courses within, over and above CoC requirements to support the full implementation of the regulation as well as the continued professional development of many other industry professionals worldwide.
